How much will SASSA Grants pay? New Grant amounts from 1 April 2023

Over the next few years, South Africa will allocate R227 billion for additional funding in its budget speech for 2023 (held on 22 February 2023).

Over the medium term, R36 billion will be allocated to Social Development in the COVID-19 SRD.

The following SASSA grant recipients will receive inflation-linked increases as a result of the Finance Minister’s announcement:

  • Age Pension (Older Persons Grant) will increase as follows:
    • As of 1 April 2023, an R90 increase will be applied to recipients between the ages of 60 and 74. It will increase by R10 to R2090 on 1 October 2023.
    • On 1 April 2023, recipients over 75 will see an R90 increase. A price increase of R10 will be implemented on 1 October 2023.
  • From 1 April 2023, the Disability Grant will rise by R90, from R1080 to R2080. From 1 October 2023 onwards, it will rise by ten percent to R2090.
  • On 1 April 2023, the Child Support Grant will be increased by R20 to R500. After the 1 October 2023 increase, the rate will be R510 (a ten percent increase).
  • On 1 April 2023, the Child Support Grant Top-Up will increase by R10, making it R250. There will be no further increases after October 1, 2023.
  • A fifty-rand increase will be made to Foster Child Grants starting in April 2023. R1130 will be the new rate on 1 October 2023 after an additional R10 increase.
  • The Care Dependency Grant will increase by 90 percent on 1 April 2023. From 1 October 2023, R2090 will increase by ten percent.
  • War Veterans Grant will increase by R90 to R2100 on 1 April 2023. As of 1 October 2023, the price will increase by R10 (to R2110).
  • A 20 percent increase will be made to Grant-In-Aid by 1 April 2023. It will rise from R510 to R510 from 1 October 2023.
